Gunmen bomb 24-hour shop in Delmas

Robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of money after bombing a 24-hour shop at a filling station in Delmas early this morning, April 6.

Delmas residents woke up to the sound of several bomb blasts in the main street.

The first explosion happened at about 02:15 and four more followed shortly thereafter.

According to information received, about 10 armed men entered the premises on foot.

They used explosives to gain entry to the shop. They then bombed the safe inside.

An attempt to bomb the First National Bank ATM on the premises apparently failed.

The suspects fled after hijacking a taxi on the premises. No injuries were sustained during the attack.

All relevant role players were on scene.

No further information available.

The gang was not successful in blasting open the FNB ATM.
