Stray animals from Standerton need a loving home

A serious need at the moment is food for puppies and kittens, the older animals have enough pellets for the time being.

Adoptive parents in town are urgently needed.

Kromdraai Kennels, Standerton that care for stray animals, is currently full.

Hillel Coetzer, CEO of Northern Light Foundation (NLF), reiterated that the kennels do not cater for owners wanting to get rid of their pets, but it is a haven for those dogs and cats, founded on streets.

The foundation began this initiative with the help of Kromdraai’s Michael and Alida Podges.

Six cats with four arriving soon, are accommodated at the facility, as well as dogs.

A serious need at the moment is food for puppies and kittens, the older animals have enough pellets for the time being.

Their storeroom is partly filled with blankets and food for the animals.

No adoption fee will be charged in future, a form however, must be signed in which responsibility is undertaken for sterilising the animal.

“The animals can not be housed at the kennels indefinitely,” Coetzer said.

He is planning a monthly market to raise funds for the upkeep of the stray animals and a ‘Boeresportdag’ is also envisaged.

It will be held at the Guest House towards the end of May.

The kennels also need money for deworming and dips and with ample funds, the facility can be developed and more kennels built.

Anyone willing to contribute, can either make a donation into the bank account of the foundation, or drop food off at the Guest House in Coligny Street, or the offices of the Standerton Advertiser, 13B Burger Street.

Coetzer thanked all the businesses and residents who have made contributions so far.
