Sertiti hands over healthcare centre in Standerton

The services offered include management of chronic diseases, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), family planning, HIV/Aids, TB, and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Seriti handed over a refurbished facility, that was upgraded into a community healthcare centre, on Wednesday, March 30 to the Department of Health (DoH) in Lekwa.

According to their statement of last week, this project forms part of Seriti’s corporate social investment (CSI) programme and brings much-needed healthcare to the Thuthukani-community, neighbouring their New Denmark Colliery.

The community previously received medical services through a mobile clinic unit of the department, once a week.

With the new clinic facility, the DoH will be able to deliver healthcare services daily.

The services offered include management of chronic diseases, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), family planning, HIV/Aids, TB, and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Thabo Masike, chief corporate and community relations officer at Seriti, said they recognise that basic healthcare is a key human right as Human Rights Month comes to an end.

“We believe that by improving healthcare, we improve the quality of life and dignity of the residents in communities surrounding our operations,” Masike also said.

“Seriti also recognises that local communities face many challenges, and we undertake regular, open and honest conversations to better understand what our stakeholders need, and how we can support them.”

The renovation work carried out created four jobs for unskilled members of the local community, and the work done on the old building included painting of the ceiling, repair work on water leaks, removal of old shower cabins, and installation of new equipment in the examination room, X-ray room, vital signs room, storeroom, and the pharmacy.

The statement concluded by saying this initiative is closely linked to one of Seriti’s key values, ‘Safety and health without compromise’, and the company aims to continue partnering with key stakeholders in the public sector to improve service delivery.
