Inkazimulo Stimulation Centre in Standerton benefits from mining partnership
Seriti is heeding the UN call for companies to pledge to create a world, where all people with disabilities, including autism, can reach their full potential.
Seriti’s New Denmark Colliery and their partners Joy Global Africa (Komatsu Mining Corp) handed over critical resources to the Inkazimulo Stimulation Centre in Standerton on Thursday, April 7.
The centre is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1993 to provide a holistic and complete continuum of care for people living with disabilities, including epilepsy, Down syndrome and autism.
They provide this service within the Lekwa area.
Thabo Masike, chief corporate and community relations officer at Seriti said April is World Autism Month and Seriti is heeding the UN call for companies to pledge to create a world, where all people with disabilities, including autism, can reach their full potential.
“Seriti continues to forge partnerships with its contractors and suppliers to join the journey toward developing our local communities,” Masike added.
“Together we can change the lives of many people in need in communities surrounding our operations, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.”
Seriti challenged Joy Global Africa to assist in providing for the immediate needs of the centre and its beneficiaries.
Joy Global Africa had risen to this challenge and committed R500 000 in the last financial year to provide this support.
Gas heaters and stoves, maintenance equipment, office supplies and hardware, grocery supplies and school uniforms were handed over.
Joy Global Africa will also assist with remuneration for staff and training for caregivers.
Dinah Williams, transformation director at Joy Global Africa (Komatsu Mining Corp) said that creating partnerships with customers sits high in the Joy Global Africa transformation agenda.
“We are pleased to have partnered with Seriti on this initiative with the intent of promoting skills development and an improved teaching and learning environment for the teachers and learners alike.”
