Electricians of Lekwa receive a compliment

Venter said the sub is not deliberately switched off and indicated that municipal infrastructure was neglected for more than 20 years.

Residents in Standerton have to cope with regular electricity outages.

Eskom’s load-shedding schedules and the possibility that Lekwa Municipality had introduced internal load-shedding, as happened in the past, had led to some speculation.

The power trips time and time again once the power utility’s given period of load-shedding has passed.

On a WhatsApp group for mid-town, the ward councillor of the Freedom Front Plus, Wilma Venter, denied rumours on April 20 about internal load-shedding.

Venter said the sub was not deliberately switched off and indicated that municipal infrastructure had been neglected for more than 20 years.

She added that repairs and upgrades would cost billions of rands.

Venter added the municipality’s electricians were dedicated, competent and willing and not useless, as some may have it.

“Rather show them some support, if you spend a day with them, you will see a whole different picture,” she concluded.
