Zonderwater officials restore hope for Retang Primary School learners
School receives shoes and maintenance.
Zonderwater Correctional Services officials handed over shoes at Retang Primary School in Moloto on Tuesday, May 10.
The event was also attended by parents and the school governing body (SGB).
“To ensure learners take pride in and proudly boast with their studies, the correctional services officials need to demonstrate their efforts and dedication,” said Zonderwater Area Coordinator Corrections, Thalita Tshehla.
Zonderwater officials reinstated confidence for Retang Primary School Learners in Moloto by donating 88 pairs of boys and girls school shoes during their visit.
Retang Primary School has a population of 1 500 learners, mostly learners from less fortunate family backgrounds.
The correctional services have an annual ministerial project in the beginning of the year where the adopted school receives a donation of shoes and maintenance to the school.
“We value you for reaching out to the schools to correct and curb the ills done by community, we need you most here at schools,” said the school deputy principal, Thulani Motsepe.
Muvhoni Mamburu, a grade six learner couldn’t hide her emotional cute smile when thanking the correctional services officials.
“The shoes came at the right time as it is winter. Some of us are either orphans, abandoned or raised by single unemployed parents, so we feel grateful for your kindness and being shown generosity is the key to academic success,” she said.
“Similar to previously adopted schools, Zonderwater Management Area is currently busy with the maintenance project at the unfinished school structure for the financial year 2022/23.
The project, in which the correctional services are using the ex-offenders and parolees labour include building, electric fittings, plumbing, leakage patching, ceiling installation and painting.
The white paper on corrections mandate the ex-offenders and parolees to demonstrate the skills learned while in custody to give back to community they have wronged.
This will assist them in positively being socially re-integrated back to society while empowering the community by sharing such skills,” said Mashudu Mutamba from the communications Department.
