Police arrest cable thieves on the N4
The Quantum was eventually stopped near Vosman on the N4. The vehicle was searched and police recovered two bolt cutters, two hacksaws and gloves under a seat in the Quantum.
Police officials arrested eight suspects found in possession of tools suspected to be used to commit a crime.
The police apparently received a call from the Crime Intelligence unit on Wednesday May 25, to inform them of a shooting at an Eskom security official in the Balmoral area.
Information had it that the eight would have been picked up by a white Topyota Quantum on the N4-highway at Boesmanskraal, Bronkhorstspruit.
When the police arrived at the scene, six men wearing reflector jackets were standing next to a maize field.
Upon noticing the police, the six fled into the mealie field.
In the meantime, a suspicious white Toyota Quantum with no registration plates at the back, slowly passed the scene and the police immediately called for backup from Vosman and Bronkhorstspruit.

According to a media statement released by Const Cathrine Ramovha, media spokesperson for the Bronkhorstspruit Police, the driver tried to explain why he was in possession of the tools and why he was driving at a low speed near the cable theft hotspot area.
“In the end the police managed to arrest eight cable theft suspects,” said Ramovha.
At the time of going to print, the police were investigating the matter.
