Govan Mbeki Municipality unveiled another service delivery fleet, which according to the mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma, is for the acceleration of service delivery.
The fleet unveiling ceremony was done at Lillian Ngoyi Stadium on Monday, June 20 in the presence of all councillors and municipal officials.
Zuma said they have procured six sewer honey sucker trucks but only managed to get three in time for the unveiling because the production company’s plant has a delay in delivery.
The mayor said these trucks will assist the municipality in unblocking and removing waste from sceptic thanks and other sewer-related complaints.
“Since we all know that sewage spills are one of the municipality’s problems, the council took a decision to buy this fleet.
“We have also procured a fleet for other departments, such as water, finance, fire and community services.
“This equipment belongs to our community. It is their responsibility to ensure that it is used for good service delivery, and to make sure that the equipment is not damaged or abused,” said Zuma.
Other new vehicles acquired, include three tractors for vegetation maintenance, three water tankers, four bakkies for the Finance Department that will be used for meter reading purposes, two double cap bakkies that will be used by the Community Services Department for the maintenance of municipal infrastructures such as halls and stadiums and two bakkies for the Fire Department.
Zuma said the two bakkies given to the Finance Department, are to enable the meter readers to do their work correctly and thus ensure that the community is billed correctly. This will bring satisfaction to the consumers about their accounts and will assist in revenue collection.
