Evander High School’s first-team hockey boys, who were the least expected team to win, are the team to beat this season.
The first team played in Middelburg on June 17 and 18 and won three out of the four matches that were played.
The first team gained a victory against Hoërskool Lydenburg beating them 2–0.
They then went on to play Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog and again claimed victory of 2–1.
They were not so fortunate against Hoërskool Nelspruit who beat them with a close score of 3–2.
However, the first team came back with a winning streak when playing against Hoërskool Witbank and taking the win of a whooping 4–0.
The first team hockey boys came first in their pool and will now be playing on July 23, in Ermelo to determine in which group they will be for Noordvaal.
Either way, they are one of the top schools in Mpumalanga to make it.
Many of the players on the first team are 16 years old and two of them, Sanele Bawuthi and Boiphelo Koloti, were selected to represent Mpumalanga’s U/16 A team.
EHS wished the boys the best of luck in the upcoming matches and knows that the boys will do them proud.
Coaches Fafa Mashiane and Nicholette Van Wyngaardt, were thanked for all their hard work and for not giving up on the boys.
Although they played their hearts out, a win was not in favour of EHS U/16 hockey boys who played at Hoërskool Secunda on June 18.
In a match played against Middelburg, EHS was thrashed with a final score of 7–0.
They managed to draw 1–1 against Curro Secunda however, Rob Ferreira saw EHS once again being defeated with a score of 3–0.
Hoërskool Oosterland also claimed their victory against EHS, beating them 4–0.
EHS once again thanked coaches Collen Nkosi and Jessica Diedericks for all their hard work.
