EVANDER – The Evander Regional Court sentenced Siyanda Qoyi (31) on Tuesday, September 6, to 22 years imprisonment for rape.
Qoyi was sentenced for raping a woman (27) after following her from a tavern in eMbalenhle.
He grabbed her and placed a knife to her throat.
Qoyi demanded the woman’s cellphone, but when she told him that she doesn’t have a phone, Qoyi instructed her to keep quiet and do what he says.
While keeping the knife in the woman’s neck, Qoyi took her to a place where he repeatedly raped her until he was spotted by passersby.
Qoyi was arrested the next day and was given bail.
He evaded his trial by fleeing to his parents at Enqeleni in the Eastern Cape.
A warrant of his arrest was issued.
Qoyi’s details were circulated until the investigating officer, Detective Sargeant Puleng Monagane from Secunda FCS, was informed that Qoyi was arrested for domestic violence in Enqeleni.
He was fetched and kept in custody until he was sentenced.
