Wife and accomplices sentenced in Delmas High Court after murder of husband

During an intelligence driven investigation, it was established that Thembisa Zulu, the wife of the deceased hired two hitmen, Mofokeng and Matsobane who waylaid the deceased in his residence.

The Delmas High Court convicted Seetsa David Mofokeng (44), Mojalefa Christopher Matsobane (43) and Thembisa Zulu (47).

The conviction on Friday, September 16, follows an incident that happened on July 4, 2011.

The deceased, Devilier Dan Zulu, who was a taxi owner at the time, was shot in front of his gate in Ext 15, eMbalenhle, a township near Secunda.

A murder case was registered and transferred to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit based in Secunda.

During an intelligence-driven investigation, it was established that Thembisa Zulu, the wife of the deceased hired two hitmen, Mofokeng and Matsobane who waylaid the deceased in his residence.

On the day of the murder, the deceased phoned his wife while at the gate. After opening the gate, the hitmen fatally wounded the victim and then fled the scene.

Mofokeng was found guilty of murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Matsobane and the wife, Zulu, were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The three accused remain in custody and at the time of going to print, they were set to appear in the Delmas High Court for sentencing on Thursday, September 22.
