Standerton Cricket Club triumphs
They scored a whopping 169 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs against the Bethal Bears’ 74 runs for 10 wickets in 18.2 overs.
Standerton Cricket Club excelled the past weekend by winning most of their league T20 matches. The first team played four matches in the Premier League, three of which they won.
Standerton chased eMbalenhle’s 118 runs for 10 wickets in their first bout played in eMbalenhle on Saturday, October 22.
They exceeded their target with a score of 121 for four wickets in 19.2 overs, winning the match with six wickets.
Opening batsman Ricus van der Hoven stayed in the game throughout, scoring a solid 50 runs off 55 balls, not out.
His partnership with André Schwab paid off as Schwab also top-scored for Standerton with 41 runs off 35 balls.
Schwab was run out by eMba’s Bongani Molefe. Molefe also took out Quintin Kruger with the second ball.
eMba turned the scales in the second match by knocking Standerton down with 135/4 from 15 overs. The overs were reduced to 15 per side. Standerton scored 64/9 in 10 overs.

However, Standerton 1’s second triumph was on their home ground when they smashed the Bethal Bears in their first match on Sunday, October 23.
Standerton won by 95 runs. They scored a whopping 169 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs against the Bethal Bears’ 74 runs for 10 wickets in 18.2 overs.
The Bears won the toss and opted to bowl first. Neil Parsons’ skilled hand-eye-coordination was a saving grace for the Bethal Bears. He caught out four of Standerton’s batsmen.
The home team’s top scorers were Jan Dirk van Dyk who whacked 55 runs off 33 balls, not out, Henre Naude who laid in with the bat to score 44 runs off 29 balls and Jacques Nell who made 27 runs off 21 balls, not out.
Naude took three wickets from Bethal Bears while Elpee Jordaan, Tobie Pretorius and Dayne Young each toppled two wickets.
In their second match on Sunday, the Bears were first to bat, scoring 61 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs.
Standerton 1 easily beat the target with 62 runs for 1 in 7.4 overs.

Their top scorers were Nijan Swart with 24 runs off 34 balls and Kobus Swart with 14 runs off 15 balls.
Bowler Naude again felled three wickets.
Dayne Young, Quintin Kruger, PJ Venter and André Schwab each took down a wicket.
Standerton’s second team played their promotional league match against Sasol 3 Kinross at the Sasol Club on Sunday.
Sasol 3 Kinross went in to bat first in the first game and scored 101 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs.
Standerton 2 chased down the target in the 11th over, scoring 102 for three wickets.
WJ Smith smashed 55 runs off 40 balls, Andrew Harper scored 22 runs off 17 balls and Craig Young made 11 runs off 12 balls.
Standerton 2’s Johan Adendorff took down three wickets while captain Werner Mouton, Pomesan Govender and Joe Coetzer each dropped two wickets.
Standerton 2 won their second match against Sasol 3 Kinross with 16 runs. They went in first to bat and scored 125 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs.
Sasol 3 Kinross could only reach 109 runs for eight wickets in their 20 overs. Standerton 2’s Joe Coetzer top scored with 23 runs off 35 balls.
Johan Swanepoel made 22 runs off 17 balls, not out, and Adendorff scored 16 runs off nine balls. WJ Smith ensured the fall of three wickets while Mouton, Govender, Adendorff and Young toppled a wicket each.
