Standerton Cricket Club’s 2nd team faces Sasol 4 Griffons in promotion league
Standerton redeemed themselves in the second innings by winning the match by 59 runs.
Standerton Cricket Club’s second team had a bittersweet T20 clash with the Sasol 4 Griffons in Secunda on Saturday, November 5.
In the first innings of this bout in the Promotional League, the Griffons won by 10 runs.
The Griffons scored 117 for four runs in their 20 overs against Standerton 2nds who scored 107 runs for 10 wickets in 17.4 overs.
Standerton won the toss and sent the Griffons in to bat first.
Their batsmen were Marius Diedericks who scored 20 runs off 21 balls, Werner Muller who scored 35 runs off 48 balls (not out), Dillion Kriel who scored 13 runs off 24 balls, Wimpie Jerling who made seven runs off five balls, Theunis Snyders who smashed 19 runs off seven balls and Sam Erasmus who made 11 runs off 15 balls, not out.
Standerton’s bowlers who took a wicket each, are Quintin Kruger, Stefan van Tonder, Connor Breytenbach and Jayden Breytenbach.
Pieter van Niekerk made 24 runs off 29 balls before being bowled out by Marius Diedericks.

Quintin Kruger scored 15 runs off 19 balls before being sent off the pitch with an LBW (leg before wicket).
Jayden Breytenbach was also caught out with an LBW after scoring 17 runs off 21 balls. Connor Breytenbach showed off with 12 runs off five balls not out.
The Griffons’ Sam Erasmus and Wimpie Jerling wreaked havoc among the visiting batsmen as they took out three wickets each.
The other bowlers who each felled a wicket, are Theunis Snyders, Dillion Kriel, Damian Lamb and Marius Diedericks.
Standerton 2nds redeemed themselves in their second innings when they won the match by 59 runs, averaging a run rate of 8,3.
Standerton scored 165 runs for four wickets against the Griffons’ 106 for eight. Standerton won the toss and opted to bat first.

Captain Ricus van der Hoven was the star of this match by whacking 79 runs off 57 balls not out.
Pieter van Niekerk made 18 runs off 20 balls, Quintin Kruger scored 10 runs off six balls, Jaden Breytenbach got eight runs off four balls and Johardt Swanepoel made 29 runs off 33 balls, not out.
The Griffons’ top-notch bowler, Sam Erasmus took down two wickets and Dillion Kriel and Marius Diedericks each felled a wicket.
Standerton’s bowlers excelled when their time came for fieldwork.
Quintin Kruger and Werner Mouton ensured the home team’s efforts to chase Standerton’s score were unsuccessful.
They claimed three wickets each while Pieter van Niekerk and Jaden Breytenbach each knocked down a wicket.
The Griffons’ top scorers were Diedericks with 13 runs off 15 balls, Werner Muller with 18 runs off 31 balls, and Dillion Kriel with 17 runs off 22 balls. Standerton still maintains its lead in the promotional league.
