Ex-Standerton local takes pageant crown

“We came from different provinces, speaking different languages, but managed to accommodate one another to speak one language we all could understand.”

Daphney Mkhwanazi, born and raised in Standerton, is the reigning Miss Stellar World South Africa 2023/24.
She is a product of Thandeka Primary School and Jandrell Secondary School.

“I began modelling through Charles Msibi of the CPF in town. He introduced me to many activities, such as modelling and dancing,” Mkhwanazi said.

She is now a police constable stationed at the Witbank SAPS. The pageant finals were in Bloemfontein on April 6.

“I felt positive at all times, and the experience was rewarding, although my awkward self wasn’t sure what to expect at first,” Mkhwanazi commented.

“I knew how crucial this pageant was to me, and this is the first crown I have won. I am grateful and honoured.”

Altogether, seven finalists participated in the pageant, and they were friendly, with the shared sisterhood overwhelming.

“We came from different provinces, speaking different languages, but managed to accommodate one another to speak one language we all could understand.”

Mkhwanazi’s family are happy and supportive, knowing how dedicated she was.

The international presentation will take place in Atlanta, USA, next August, where Mkhwanazi will wear different dresses.

“The most important one is the dress I must make that depicts my country.”

She will be required to speak about why she chose that particular dress. Mkhwanazi thanked the Standerton community for its support.
