Grootdraai Dam in Standerton drops to 94.9%

According to the report, the average dam levels in the province dropped from 101.9% to 101.5%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation’s reservoirs report of May 13 showed that all the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga recorded declines in water levels.

Grootdraai Dam dropped from 95.8% to 94.9%, Nooitgedacht from 94.8% to 93.7%, Vygeboom from 100.4% to 100.3%, Jericho from 68.0% to 67.1%, Westoe from 71.3% to 70.4%, Morgenstond from 89.1% to 88.1% and Heyshope from 101.4% to 101.1%.

The report also showed that levels dropped in the province as a whole, with water volumes dropping in the water management areas and the districts.

According to the report, the average dam levels in the province dropped from 101.9% to 101.5%.

In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants dropped from 86.8% to 85.9%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 105.8% to 105.4%.

For the districts, Gert Sibande dropped from 95.0% to 94.3%, Ehlanzeni from 118.6% to 118.5%, and Nkangala from 98.2% to 97.8%.

The department called on the public to use the available water wisely and sparingly, considering the dry winter ahead.

They also reminded the public that SA is a dry, water-scarce country where every drop counts.

“Water conservation is critical for water security for current and future generations,” the department said.
