Secunda Regional Court sentences rapists of disabled girl
One received life imprisonment and the other 20 years.
The Secunda Regional Court recently sentenced two eMbalenhle men to life imprisonment and 20 years imprisonment on charges of rape, respectively.
They raped a 14-year-old disabled girl on separate occasions more than once between October 2018 and December of the same year.
A teacher at the girl’s special needs school told the mother she noticed changes in the girl’s body and suspected the girl could be pregnant.
The mother then took the girl to the clinic, where tests confirmed she was pregnant. The girl then told her mother what had happened.

One of the men, a neighbour, took the girl and her younger brother to his RDP house and made the brother sit in the dining room while he took the girl to his bedroom, where he undressed her and himself and raped her.
He gave her R20 after raping her and the brother R5 before sending them home.
The disabled girl revealed at the clinic that this man was not the only one doing things to her. She said another man would pick up her and her brother when they played outside their house and take them to an open field in his car.
He would first take them to a shop and buy them food and sweets before proceeding to the field, where he left the bother quite a distance from his vehicle and then parked the car under a tree, where he raped the young girl.
