Alleged cable thief shocked to death in Standerton

Police believe the man attempted to steal cables from a substation in the industrial area.

An electrician discovered the body of an unidentified man near a substation in the industrial area in the early hours of September 21.

This occurred after a power outage left most of the community without electricity around 03:00.

The following day, an electrician for the Lekwa Local Municipality found the charred body during an inspection of the substation. The body was next to a hacksaw and a pair of gloves.

This led authorities to believe the man was shocked to death while attempting to steal copper.

A case was opened at the Standerton SAPS and an investigation was underway.
