New Lekwa mayor announces his executive council

Following the election of Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu, the Lekwa community has been divided. Many have concerns about the newly announced mayoral committee.

The Lekwa community has been divided since the announcement of the new mayoral committee on November 14.

Some residents rallied behind this decision, wishing the new committee luck, while others expressed concern over the rapidly declining state of municipal infrastructure.

According to a statement released by the newly elected mayor, Sifiso Mngemezulu, the Lekwa Municipality has committed to improving and accelerating service delivery for all residents.

“I am here taking a significant step towards fulfilling that commitment by announcing the mayoral committee,” said Mngemezulu.

He assured the community that providing quality services is non-negotiable, and residents can rest assured this is not a political game.
However, some residents do not believe this statement.

“As the leader of this committee, I will ensure we are held accountable for our duties. Committee members will be held to the highest standard and expected to serve the community with integrity,” added Mngemezulu.

He said this team would strengthen effective oversight and good governance to build a better municipality.

Clr Phindile Mahlaba was appointed MMC of Corporate Services; Clr Sesana Masondo MMC of Planning and Economic Development; Clr Litheko Marago MMC of Technical Services and Clr Mapaseka Mlaba MMC of Community Services and Safety; Thabang Motaung MMC of Budget and Treasury.

This decision was supported by many, but a large part of the community was outraged.

“You were elected by your comrades, not the community,” said Pheelo Mlotshwa.

This seems to be a popular opinion because the same concern was raised during the initial mayoral election.

“I congratulate the newly appointed members and wish them well in their new responsibilities. In them, I have a strong team who will work tirelessly to advance the development of our residents,” concluded Mngemezulu.
