Medical emergency centre opens in Secunda soon

Doctor Gareth Raman will launch this first for Secunda to celebrate his 20 years of practice.

A much-needed 24-hour general practitioner emergency centre will see the light in Secunda on December 1.

Residents needing immediate medical attention at night, on weekends or public holidays, when many doctors may not be available, will find help at the GP Raman Medical Centre. Doctor Gareth Raman will launch this first for Secunda to celebrate his 20 years of practice.

“This service aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for all residents in the region,” explained Dr Raman.

The GP Raman Medical Centre has established itself as one of excellence in the community, featuring well-equipped doctors’ rooms, Secunda X-rays, Lancet Laboratories and various medical disciplines, including a psychologist, dentist, podiatrist, audiologist, dietitian, IV drip therapy, hair loss and botox clinics, dermal fillers and a designated men’s clinic.

A pharmacy will soon open, further expanding the comprehensive healthcare services available under one roof.

“Patients have a right to affordable and excellent healthcare,” Dr Raman stated.

According to him, this new service aims to achieve that for everyone in a world-class facility, offering highly qualified doctors with extensive experience in advanced cardiac and emergency GP support medicine.

Raman holds an impressive six medical degrees and recently specialised in occupational medicine. He graduated with distinction and has two degrees awarded Cum Laude. He has many awards for outstanding results in tertiary exams throughout his academic career.

Dr Raman, who comes from humble beginnings, has dedicated his 25-year medical career to addressing and uplifting the Secunda community’s healthcare needs.

Alongside his wife, Moegsina Raman, they initiated several outreach programmes focused on education and community development, including a feeding scheme at the Adullam Mission.

The couple heads IC Health, an occupational health facility in the Secunda area, providing fitness-to-work medicals to several companies in our area.

Dr Raman’s diverse expertise extends beyond medicine; he is also a philanthropist and entrepreneur with interests in civil engineering and hospitality.

Notably, he is the only medical doctor in SA who is a participating member of the South African Institute of Civil Engineers, showcasing his commitment to the medical and engineering fields.

With the introduction of the 24-hour Emergency GP Centre, Dr Raman is expanding his vision for a healthier community, reinforcing the importance of accessible healthcare for all.
