Colin Munro from Standerton recounts his bowling journey

He has been a part of the Standerton Community since 1987 and now spends the bulk of his time at the bowling club.

Colin Munro has been a resident of Standerton since 1987; leaving the sunny coast of Port Shepstone behind.

He always loved being active and spent his free time participating in any sport he could play.

“I am extremely fond of soccer; the game has a special place in my heart,” said Munro.

Growing up, Munro’s parents were avid bowlers. His parents were both singles champions at the Margate Bowls Club.

He recalled practicing with the extra bowls to entertain himself while his parents were competing.

“I always promised myself when I became too old to participate in other types of sport, I would continue bowling,” he added.

After retiring as a technician at Tutuka Power Station, Munro became more involved in the game. Munro currently acts as greenkeeper and caretaker of the Standerton Bowls Club.

He has won the men’s singles championship four times, he was appointed the Standerton Bowls Club’s Victor Ludorum in 2014 and received his Mpumalanga colours in 2023.

“Receiving my colours for bowling has been my lifelong ambition,” said Colin.

He often mentors new players and enjoys watching others develop a love for bowling.

“Seeing people enjoy the game and improve their skills from one week to the next is truly fulfilling,” concluded Munro.
