Health Department pays tribute to slain Bethal nurse

Mpumalanga Department of Health officials gathered at the Hindu Community Hall in Milan Park, eMzinoni, on September 4 to bid farewell to the late Bongani Matthew Mlambo during a memorial service.

According to the department, Mlambo served as a professional nurse at eMzinoni Clinic, where he was described as a dedicated member of the healthcare team.

The department extended its deepest condolences to the Mlambo family, his colleagues at eMzinoni Clinic, friends and the broader Govan Mbeki Municipality community during this difficult time.

Mlambo’s contribution to the healthcare sector and his service to the eMzinoni community were remembered as officials, colleagues and community members gathered to honour his life and legacy.

Mlambo was last known to be at his residence in Milan Park, eMzinoni, between August 25 and 26.

According to the eMzinoni police, Mlambo’s colleagues became concerned after he failed to report for duty and could not be reached telephonically.

A colleague then went to his residence to check on his whereabouts.

The colleague found both gates locked. Upon gaining access to the property, evidence was found that the garage door had been tampered with.

Mlambo could not be found and his vehicle was not in the garage. A vehicle tracking company recovered the vehicle in Middelburg.

Tsepo Mokoena (29) was arrested on August 30 and the following day, Mlambo’s body was found along R35 to Middelburg.

Mokoena appeared before the Bethal Magistrate’s Court in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Mlambo. He has been remanded in custody and his case is postponed to September 15.

Mlambo was laid to rest on September 5 in eMzinoni.
