Bronkhorstspruit SAPS embark on school safety awareness campaign

The importance of school attendance and the consequences of breaking school rules were also discussed with the learners.

The SAPS run ‘Back-to-School’ awareness campaigns to educate learners as well as parents about school safety.

According to the corporate communications officer at Bronkhorstspruit SAPS, Constable Cathrine Ramovha, the campaigns are designed to help learners stay safe at school and on their way to and from school.

On January 15, the commander of the Bronkhorstspruit police, together with Social Crime Prevention, Crime Prevention members, the Department of Community safety ambassadors and crime prevention wardens embarked on such a campaign in the Bronkhorstspruit region.

Ramovha added that the team visited all schools in Bronkhorstspruit policing precinct.

Among other schools, learners and 146 parents from the Mshuluzane Maisela Primary School as well as 1 050 learners from the Zithobeni Secondary School were addressed during the campaign.

The team sensitised parents and learners about the dangers of substance abuse and drug and alcohol use.

Learners were also warned not to bully each other and to identify and come forward and report bullying. The importance of school attendance and the consequences of breaking school rules were also discussed with the learners.

“The programme and reaching out ran smoothly although some of the schools were still overcrowded due to late applications,” Ramovha concluded.
