Sundra Secondary School learners’ quarrel leaves one wounded

A quarrel between two grade 10 learners at Sundra Secondary School escalated to a stabbing, leading to community outrage, a school lockdown, and a follow-up meeting to address safety concerns.

What appears to be an apparent quarrel between two grade 10-learners from the Sundra Secondary School left one with a knife wound to the shoulder.

According to information the incident happened on Tuesday, February 25. Sundra SAPS was informed about the stabbing incident, but was not able to access the premises upon arrival.

According to information the school premises was cordoned off by disgruntled parents, members of the community as well as members of the local taxi association.

SAPS eventually managed to enter the premises where after the victim was taken to hospital for treatment of a knife wound to the shoulder blade.

The accused was arrested. As a minor he was later that same day released into the care of his parents.

A follow-up meeting was held the next day, February 26, attended by a group of approximately 120 people which included parents, members of the community, SAPS as well as representatives from the Department of Education.

According to Sundra SAPS, the Department of Education will come forward with a proposal on how to prevent similar incidents in future.
