Family of deceased eMbalenhle learner marches

Learners allegedly fought over a desk.

The family of Kevin Madikgetla, a matric learner of Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School who died on February 27 after he was stabbed by another learner, organised a march on May 2.

The march started near the CBD of Secunda and the community marched to the Department of Education in Secunda.
Madikgetla’s family is urging the department to take action.

It is alleged that the other learner stabbed Madikgetla with a knife because of a desk.

There allegedly were not enough desks in the classroom for all the learners to sit and the two argued about a desk.

The marchers handed over a memorandum to the Department of Education. The Grade 10 learner who stabbed Madikgetla was arrested and appeared in court numerous times already. His latest court appearance was on the day of the march.
