Tshwane is making strides in tackling Bronkhorstspruit’s water issues
Other work to do is installing the remaining pump at the raw water plant.
The Bronkhorstspruit community praised the team working to solve the town’s water crisis. The team finished the first phase of this task on Monday.
The completed work saw the water treatment plant refurbished, ensuring that the two pumps in the raw water plant work.
The storage reservoir that supplies water to the Zithobeni and Ekangala reservoirs was flushed and cleaned. The CoT again began pumping water on May 11.
The scouring team scoured fire hydrants to flush out the system and stabilise the quality of the water supply on Monday.
The regional head of Region 7, Jabu Mabona, said on Monday that the bulk water team would provide a final report on the reservoir levels and supply, and that much more work still needed to be done on the system.
“Refurbishment work will continue in the treatment plant, especially at the beginning of the budget cycle, which includes the funnel systems. Our priority now is to get the plant in a good state. Other work to do is installing the remaining pump at the raw water plant.”

Mabona said the community will be kept informed and up to date.
Community leaders Carenesta de Jager and Cecilia Knox, on behalf of the Bronkhorstspruit/Kungwini Municipal Watchdog group and the community, thanked the engineer and her team for their work.
“We have enormous respect for her work ethic and salute her. The community is in debt to all the residents who selflessly provided water from their boreholes to limit the impact of the water crisis,” said De Jager and Knox in a WhatsApp message.
Mayor of Tshwane Nasiphi Moya and an entourage that included the MMC deployed in the region, local councillors and officials visited the treatment plant on Monday to see how the work had progressed.
“The mayor was pleased with the work done thus far, and looks forward to the outstanding work’s completion so all residents of the region are happy with the water supply,” concluded Mabona.
