Average dam levels in Mpumalanga continue to decline

In the Gert Sibande District, the Grootdraai Dam dropped from 102.9% to 102.6%. The Nooitgedacht Dam declined from 100.1% to 99.4%, while the Vygeboom and Westoe dams went from 100.9% to 100.3% and 100.6% to 99.6%, respectively.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released a media statement asking the public to use water sparingly as the average water levels in Mpumalanga have started to decline.

The DWS weekly State of Reservoirs Report for the week of May 12 showed decreases in the average provincial dam levels.
Water levels in Mpumalanga dropped slightly from 100.5% to 100.4%, while the Gert Sibande district average decreased from 101.4% to 101.5%.

In the Gert Sibande District, the Grootdraai Dam dropped from 102.9% to 102.6%. The Nooitgedacht Dam declined from 100.1% to 99.4%, while the Vygeboom and Westoe dams went from 100.9% to 100.3% and 100.6% to 99.6%, respectively.

The Jericho Dam showed a slight improvement from 100.5% to 101.9%. The Morgenstond Dam increased from 99.8% to 100.3%, and the Heyshope Dam from 101.0% to 101.1%.

“The department reminds the public that SA is a water-scarce country, where every drop counts,” said Wisane Mavasa, the DWS spokesperson.

He said, despite the satisfactory current water levels, using water responsibly to ensure no reserves go to waste remains crucial.
