Leandra woman arrested for throwing her child in a pit toilet
The woman allegedly threw the child into a neighbour’s pit toilet following a dispute with her boyfriend—the child’s father—over money.
A one year-old baby is fighting for her life in the hospital after her mother threw her down a pit toilet in Leandra.
Leandra police arrested a 39-year-old woman on June 5 for attempted murder after the little girl was rescued from a pit toilet in the Marikana informal settlement.
According to reports, the woman allegedly threw the child into a neighbour’s pit toilet following a dispute with her boyfriend—the child’s father—over money.
Community members heard the baby crying and immediately alerted the police, who called emergency services. The child was rescued and rushed to Evander Hospital.
Leandra police spokesperson, Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, confirmed that the arrest was made with the help of the community. The woman is expected to appear in court soon, and investigations are ongoing.
