Water levels drop slightly but stay above 2024
In Mpumalanga, overall dam levels dropped slightly from 99.3% to 99.2%. The Gert Sibande district recorded a similar decline, from 100.0% to an average of 99.8%.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released its weekly state of reservoirs report on July 2. The report indicates that water levels are gradually declining, although still higher than those recorded at the same time last year.
Despite the marginal drop, the DWS continues to urge residents to use water sparingly.
According to the report compiled by Wisane Mavasa, the DWS spokesperson, responsible water use remains critical for long-term water security nationwide.
In Mpumalanga, overall dam levels dropped slightly from 99.3% to 99.2%. The Gert Sibande district recorded a similar decline, from 100.0% to an average of 99.8%.
Several dams in the district showed small decreases:
• Grootdraai Dam: from 100.4% to 100.2%;
• Vygeboom Dam: from 100.3% to 100.0%;
• Westoe Dam: from 93.3% to 91.7%;
• Jericho Dam: from 100.3% to 99.7%.
Two dams remained unchanged:

“The DWS calls on communities and industries to adopt a water-wise culture and take practical steps to reduce water usage and prevent losses,” said Mavasa.
