Directors of Solly’s in Secunda appear in court for illicit cigarettes

Solly Super Store directors and their son appear in court over R107k illicit cigarette bust in Secunda - trio face multiple charges.

The directors of Solly Super Store and Wholesale in Secunda joined their son in the court dock yesterday (July 17) in connection with the selling of illicit cigarettes.

Suliman Ismail Moolla (67) and Fathima Essop Moolla (62) were summoned to the Evander Regional Court after 4710 packets of illicit cigarettes valued at R107 700 were seized from their business on September 9 last year.

The Hawks’ Secunda-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation also arrested Riaz Moolla (42) that day.

According to the Hawks’ spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, the trio face charges of Contravention of the Tobacco Products Act, Contravention of Customs and Excise Act, and Contravention of Value Added Tax Act.

They were released on warning and warned to appear before the same court on July 29.
