Bowls showcase thrills at Bronkies greens

Bronkhorstspruit also had the honours to be paid a visit by Sanette Kritzinger, the President of Gauteng Bowls.

The Bronkhorstspruit Bowls Club, on July, 19, hosted another Perfect Delivery Gauteng Open competition filled with excellent play, competitive action and a colorful display from many clubs.

This time it was the men singles which was played on Bronkies’ greens and play kicked off at 08:30. The event was umpired by Steven Toontas from the Benoni Bowls Club.

Players who won in their respective sections and thereby secured themselves a place in the last 16 were Antoney Stipanou from Bedfordview (Section 28), Dian Scarola from Morningside (Section 42), Joggie Viljoen from Sasolburg (Section 56), Dawie Pieterse from Benoni (Section 57), Maarten Willemse from Irene (Section 79), Erens Botha from Delmas (Section 93), Jonty Rhodes from Groenkloof (Section 96), Gene Hill from Zeerust (Section 99), Riaan Beukes from Colbyn-Oostelikes (Section 113), Johan Weideman (Section 115), Mike Olwage from Witpoortjie Harlequins (Section 131) and Aiden de Smidt from Morningside (Section 134).

Bronkhorstspruit was also honoured by a visit from Sanette Kritzinger, president of Gauteng Bowls, alongside GC Swanepoel, CEO of Perfect Delivery.

Kritzinger told Streeknews she is excited about the future of bowls in South Africa, noting that plans are in motion to actively enhance the sport, with a special focus on youth participation. She also revealed ambitious plans for establishing local business leagues.

Bronkhorstspruit Club’ president Danie de Klerk thanked all the participants, his committee and everyone whom made this historic event possible in Bronkhorstspruit.
