DELMAS – A 29-year-old suspect is due to make his first court appearance in the Delmas court today, July 21, on charges of fraud, after purchasing a vehicle using fraudulent documents.

The Hawks Secunda based Serious Corruption Investigation and Serious Commercial Crime Investigation arrested the suspect in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, July 19.

It’s alleged that the suspect purchased a Toyota Fortuner on credit by submitting fraudulent bank statements and fraudulent payslip to the finance institution in Delmas.

The suspect received the vehicle, valued at R455,900, in October 2020. Not a single instalment was made in the past five years since the suspect drove the vehicle out of the dealership.

The financial institution turned to the Hawks for investigation. The investigation led the team to Greytown, where the suspect was arrested on Saturday, July 19.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, welcomed the arrest and commended the team for their efforts that resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
