eMbalenhle filmmaker sheds light on mental health with powerful short film

Losing Myself delves into the often hidden struggles of trauma, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

Local filmmaker Bongile Sixhanti is using the power of storytelling to spark conversations about mental health through his new short film Losing Myself.

The emotionally charged seven-minute film delves into the often hidden struggles of trauma, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

It portrays the story of an individual who appears calm on the outside but is silently battling immense inner turmoil – a reflection of the invisible pain many endure.

“In a world where mental health struggles are often suffered in silence, Losing Myself is starting conversations and breaking the stigma.

“I wanted to create something real that encourages people to reach out for help,” said Sixhanti

Sixhanti emphasised that mental health remains a taboo subject in many communities, and too many people continue to suffer quietly without support.

Through this film, he hopes to offer a message of empathy, hope, and solidarity: “You are not alone.”

Losing Myself is not just a film – it is a call for awareness, understanding, and action. The film premiered on YouTube on July 25.
