Dam levels show mixed results in Gert Sibande district
Grootdraai Dam declined slightly from 99.6% to 99.4% in the last week.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released its weekly state of reservoirs report on July 31, emphasising the decline in Grootdraai Dam’s water levels.
According to the statement, the dam saw marginal declines from 99.6% to 99.4% in the last week. Meanwhile, other dams in the Gert Sibande district showed varied trends.
The only dam in the district that showed improvement was Vygeboom Dam, which increased from 100.1% to 100.2%. Two dams remained stable, including Nooitgedacht Dam at 100.0% and Heyshope Dam at 100.3%.
The rest of the dams in the district saw declines in water levels. Jericho Dam decreased from 97.6% to 96.8%. Morgenstond Dam declined from 100.2% to 100.1% and Westoe Dam declined significantly from 87.6% to 85.6%.
The mixed results brought the district average down from 99.3% to 99.1% Despite the moderately stable water levels across the district, the DWS continues to urge residents to use water sparingly. As the statement concludes, the DWS encourages communities to report water leaks to avoid water loss.
