Secunda and Evander dancers excel at comptition

Many received special awards and obtain top three spots.

Dancers from the Julie-Ann School of Dance showcased their talent from July 25 to 27 at the Evander Club during the Dance, Talent & Model Association (DTMA) trials.

Julie-Ann Maudlin, owner of the dance school, said she is proud of her dancers, who brought home a host of trophies. A total of 89 dancers from the school took part in the trials, and most qualified for the next round – the DTMA Mpumalanga provincials.

Several dancers received special awards for their outstanding performances. Leja Viljoen and Anja Labuschagne were awarded for their dynamic duo. Janica Grobler received the presence precision award, while Milandri Meyers was recognised as born to dance.

Kalia Maudlin stood out for her overall impression on stage, and Leja Viljoen also earned an award for her awesome groove and vibe. Alissia Albasini was named best beginner dancer.

The Boss Ladies team received recognition as a dream team. Ilze-Mari Homan was praised as a lightning dancer, and Mikaylla van der Merwe received the costume award.

Zuandri Joubert earned the queen of the stage title, Kiarah Fourie was recognised for all that jazz, Juanne Kluyts for overall grooming, and Hailey van der Berg for her personality and energy.

In addition to these individual awards, the dancers achieved 25 first places, 23 second places and 25 third places across various dance categories. Many of them also won overall titles.

Mikaylla van der Merwe was named the overall contemporary senior beginner winner. Janica Grobler walked away with two overall titles: contemporary senior novice and acrobatics senior novice.

Amoné Kotze was the overall petite open winner, while Aarya Fourie claimed the overall petite hip hop title. Leja Viljoen secured two overall titles: hip hop junior beginner and junior disco.

Payton Pretorius was the overall hip-hop senior beginner winner, and Nkanyezi Sibanyoni took the overall acrobatics junior beginner title. Lana te Water was the overall winner in the 17-and-over acrobatics division, while Ivanka Koekemoer won overall pre-junior disco.

Hailey Smit earned both the overall disco junior beginner and the overall junior freestyle titles. Zuandri Joubert was the overall senior beginner and freestyle novice winner. Emma te Water won the overall senior novice disco.

Lianke Louw walked away with the overall petite freestyle title, and Alissia Albasini won overall pre-junior beginner freestyle. Mia Peens was named the overall junior freestyle novice winner. Hailey van der Berg earned the overall freestyle senior title, while Ilze-Mari Homan took the freestyle 18-and-over title.

The Boss Ladies team won overall in the duet, trio and quartet pre-amateur category. Julie-Ann said the results reflect the hard work and commitment of each dancer and the entire team at the Julie-Ann School of Dance.
