Young acrobats from Standerton excel at SA Champs

Ghitte Botha won the South African Championships, taking home a gold medal for her stunning performance.

The dancers of the Marilize Roelofse Acrobatic Studio performed well at the South African National Acrobatics Championships from July 14 to 19.

Roelofse described the event as a week of triumph, talent and dedication. Ghitte Botha took the level 2 category by storm, taking home the gold medal after competing against 40 other skilled athletes.

“Botha began her acrobatics journey at just five years old and has been training at the studio since 2023,” explained Roelofse.

She dazzled the judges and received a nearly perfect score of 7.92 out of 8.0. Mieke Swart’s exceptional performance received a score of 9.72 out of 10 in the advanced elite category to earn a silver medal.

According to Roelofse, she displayed exceptional skill and precision in her routine.

Suné du Preez competed at level 8 and received a score of 9.58 out of 10 for her outstanding routine, earning a third-place spot on the national stage.

The studio had many other successes at the championships, including a fourth place for Ria-Nise Meyer. Two acrobats, Mieke Norman and Leila van der Merwe, achieved sixth-place finishes for their routines.

Six other dancers from the studio placed in the top 10.
