Kids in Standerton practice MMA to stay safe

Thian van den Berg says his students learn to defend themselves and also gain confidence.

In a time when parents can never be certain of their child’s safety, it is necessary for them to learn self-defence.

According to Thian van den Berg of TnT Gym, his children’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) class has been progressing well since the children began their training.

“Children can benefit greatly from MMA,” said Van den Berg.

According to him, children not only learn self-defence when practising MMA, but also self-confidence.

Through the principles of MMA, they also learn to respect others and gain self-control.

“It also benefits them in other sports, as it makes them stronger, faster, and generally fitter,” said Van den Berg.

During a practice session, several parents were asked, “Why MMA?”

One mother replied that since joining the gym, her child has been more confident.

“My daughter can defend herself better in dangerous situations, and my son loves MMA so much that he wants to compete professionally one day,” said the mother.
