Standerton court grants bail to one suspect in Buhlebenkosi Makhanda’s murder

The #Justice4All network protested outside the Standerton Magistrate’s Court during the bail hearing.

The case of Buhlebenosi Makhanda’s (20) murder continued in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on August 28, where three of the four suspects were denied bail.

The murder of Makhanda gripped the hearts of Standerton residents, prompting activists to say ‘enough is enough’.

The #Justice4All network staged a protest outside the Standerton Magistrate’s Court during the bail hearing. According to Mbali Luthuli, spokesperson for the J4A Network, the outcome of the bail application left them dissatisfied.

“We are glad that three of the accused did not receive bail. However, most of the perpetrators in this case are repeat offenders,” explained Luthuli.

She added that releasing such perpetrators sends a message to other offenders that they will not be held accountable for their crimes.

“We thank the investigating officers in this case for their vigilance and hard work,” said Luthuli.

Their case was postponed to October 16 for further investigation.
