Students from dance school in Evander excel in provincial dance competition
The Julie-Ann School of Dance students won dozens of awards at the DTMA Mpumalanga competition, securing top honours in multiple categories.
Students from the Julie-Ann School of Dance (JSD) competed in the Dance Talent and Modelling Association’s (DTMA) Mpumalanga Provincial competition at the Evander Club from August 22 to 24.
They received their DTMA Mpumalanga colours and advanced to the DTMA South Africa Nationals in September at Carnival City. The overall winners were Ndalenhle Vilikazi (pre-junior contemporary), Amjah Pretorius (junior contemporary), Lana Te Water (17 years and over contemporary), Amone Kotze (petite open), Aarya Fourie (petite hip-hop), Thoa-nique Nortje (pre-junior hip-hop), Leja Viljoen (junior hip-hop), Carla van der Merwe (senior hip-hop), Alissia Albisini (pre-junior acrobatics), Nkanyezi Sibanyoni (junior acrobatics), Te Water (17 years and over acrobatics), Viljoen (junior disco), Donna Scott (senior disco beginner), Emma Te Water (senior disco), Caro-My Opperman (petite freestyle), Albisini and Nortje (pre-junior freestyle), Hailey Smit (junior freestyle), Milandri Meyers (junior freestyle novice), Zuandri Joubert (senior beginner), Hailey van der Berg (senior pre-am), What the Hell duet (duet/trio/quartet senior), Trustfall (senior group), Cornelia Pretorius (impression of the day) and Meyers (personality).
Special awards went to Kiarah Fourie (owning the stage), Danicia Saayman (brave heart), Te Water (entertainment value), Meyers (energy queen), Penelope Mullineux (keep pushing), Scott (precision and musical), Viljoen (awesome hip-hop foundation), What the Hell (good team work), Mia Grobler (upcoming star) and Van der Berg (lovely dancer).
Out of 80 students and 45 events, the JSD students took 30 first places, 27 second places, and 37 third places.
