Students from the Universal Shotokan Karate Union competed in the Karate South Africa National Development (KSAND) championships on August 30 at the Wynberg Military Base in Cape Town.
Sbongokuhle Mahlangu won first place in the boys’ 8-9 years kumite and third place in kata. Buhlebenkosi Nkosi was first in the boys’ 12-13 years kumite. Lea Kidson received first place in the girls’ 12-13 years kumite.
Onthathile Motsoeng was second in the cadet boys’ 14-15 years kumite. Lungile Mavundla received third place in boys’ 12-13 years kumite.
Overall, Mpumalanga finished seventh on the club-team grid.
The students have qualified to represent South Africa at the Gabs Open Karate Championships in Botswana from October 11 to 12.
