Safety forum in Standerton temporarily shuts down a business

All 17 businesses received general waste control notices; 15 received vector control notices; one was temporarily shut down; two were issued prohibition orders; and two received J534 fines.

The Lekwa Community Safety Forum (CSF) conducted a public safety operation on October 8. The operation was led by MMC for Community Services and Safety, Mapaseka Molaba, and executive manager, Thobeka Mthiselwa.

The Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM), Standerton SAPS, Gert Sibande District Municipality, Kasselman Security, AfriForum, and Team Ngenelela were well represented.

According to LLM spokesperson Lubabalo Majenge, the operation aimed to enhance public safety and enforce compliance with safety regulations.

The team checked compliance with municipal health by-laws, the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics, and Disinfectants Act, Regulations Governing General Hygiene Requirements for Food Premises, the Transport of Food and Related Matters, as well as Municipal Fire Department By-Laws, the Code of Practice for the National Building Regulations Act and the LLM Land Use Scheme.

Majenge said this operation yielded positive results. The team inspected 17 local businesses, including salons, grocery stores, liquor stores, and supermarkets.

All 17 businesses received general waste control notices; 15 received vector control notices; one was temporarily shut down; two were issued prohibition orders; and two received J534 fines.

“All the inspected businesses were cautioned to adhere to building safety standards,” stated Majenge.
