DWS urges continued water conservation

Water levels continue to rise.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released its weekly State of Reservoirs report, stating the current water levels of dams in the Gert Sibande District, on November 5.

The district’s average water levels have risen slightly from 94.8% to 95.1%.

The Jericho and Westoe dams are the only dams to record decreased water levels: The former dropped from 89.1% to 88.6%, and the latter from 62.8% to 61.7%.

The Grootdraai Dam increased slightly from 93.0% to 93.1%, as did the Nooitgedacht Dam, from 933.4% to 93.9%.

The Vygeboom Dam increased marginally from 97.3% to 97.4%, and the Morgenstond Dam from 100.0% to 100.2%. The Heyshope Dam rose from 100.0% to 100.8%.

Average dam levels in Mpumalanga increased from 92.6% to 92.7%.

“Despite the marginal increase in water levels across several reservoirs, the department calls for prudent water use,” stated Wisane Mavasa, the DWS spokesperson, who urged residents to report water leaks to prevent water loss.
