Teams battle in Secunda for Mpumalanga T20 championship titles

Witbank Snipers were crowned Mpumalanga T20 in the final clash against Sasol 1 on November 23.

The Sasol Recreational cricket pitches were a buzz with the Secunda Juniors Cricket Club series and the Mpumalanga T20 Championships.

On November 22, the first match of the Secunda Junior Cricket Club series saw Sasol Secunda’s U11 take on eMbalenhle.

The match was reduced to 15 overs a side.

Sasol won the toss and sent in eMbalenhle to bat first. eMbalenhle managed 47/7. Sasol chased down the target in 3.2 overs, with Jake Voigt scoring 37 not out of 16 balls.

Sasol won the match by 10 wickets.

The second match featured the U13 teams going head-to-head. Sasol won the match by three runs following rain ending proceedings.

Sasol’s best batter was Derick Botes with 59.

In the eliminator of the T20, Witbank Snipers took on the defending champions, Lowveld Cricket Club. Witbank Snipers were sent in to bat first and scored 124 in their 20 overs. Lowveld replied with 82 runs all out.

The final clash was between Sasol 1 Secunda and Witbank Snipers. Snipers won the toss and elected to bat first. They set a target of 175 runs in their 20 overs.

Sasol 1 Secunda scored 132 runs in their allotted overs. This meant Witbank Snipers were crowned Mpumalanga T20 champions for the first time.

Sasol will now move on to defend their one-day title with their first 50-over match taking place against Sasol 2 on November 30.
