Collaboration between Amersfoort SAPS and farmers leads to arrest
The suspects were charged with Possession of Suspected Stolen Property and Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
Amersfoort police arrested two suspects (43 and 45) on December 3, recovering a Toyota Fortuner that was reported stolen in Pine Town in November.
The suspects who were arrested were foreign nationals.
Police had received information about the stolen vehicle from the Rural Safety Partnership of Farmers Community, and local farmers were chasing it.
Upon realising they could not flee in the vehicle much longer, the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.
The local farmers and police continued to pursue the suspects and shortly after captured and apprehended them. The suspects were charged with Possession of Suspected Stolen Property and Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
The suspects appeared in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on December 5.
“This is a great example of the success that can be achieved through partnership,” stated the acting Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga.
