Law Enforcement Unit visit shops that sell fireworks

Govan Mbeki Municipality take strict action against unlawful firework activities.

The Law Enforcement and Compliance Unit and the Fire and Rescue Services of Govan Mbeki Munisipality are conducting opertaions in the area and clamping down on shop owners selling fireworsk without permits.

Shop owners not complying with the by-laws and selling fireworks illegally will get fined and they will get their stock confiscated by law officials.

Municipal officials urged the community to refrain from unlawful and irresponsible use of fireworks during the opcoming year-end celebrations.

The community is also urged to buy fireworks from authorised dealers ony who can display valid approved permits.

Street vendors and hawkers are not authorised to sell fireworks.

Children should not handle or light fireworks.

Anyone with information about the illegal selling or use of fireworks should report it to the nearest police station.

The following areas have been identified as designated zones for the discharging of fireworks from December 31 from 00:00 to January 1 at 01:00 only:

Secunda (Lillian Ngoyi Stadium – B Field)

Evander (Stand 1463 sporting ground)

Trichardt (Western side of Paul Kruger Road at the 4×4 track)

Kinross (Stand 2207 park at the golf course)

eMbalenhle (Stand 2099 Sport Stadium – B Field & Ext 18 open space next to South Hall)

Charl Cilliers (Soccer ground)

Thistle Grove (Stand 2769 at the dam)

Bethal (Joubert Park Stadium)

eMzinoni (eMzinoni Sport Stadium, Ext 4 open space next to water reservoir, Ext 5 open space next to Multi-purpose Hall & Ext 22 open space next to Ext 13)

Leandra (Area next to the water reservoir)

Lebohang (Sport Stadium & Ext 16 (RDP) open space next to cemetery)

Municipal officials also urged the community to celebrate respnsibly, keep noise levels down and to prioritise animal safety.
