Court postpones case against man suspected of killing two in eMbalenhle tavern

Man will apply for bail on January 12.

Musonwabo Skweza (35) appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court today (January 5) for the double murder on January 1 at a tavern in eMbalenhle.

The magistrate postponed his case to January 12 for formal bail application.

The police traced and arrested Skweza  between Leandra and Devon in the morning of January 3.

Members of the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU), the eMbalenhle Detective Services and Visible Policing, Secunda Flying Squad, as well as members from Kinross Police, worked together to ensure Skweza’s arrest.

It is reported that the suspect had probably hitchhiked to Gauteng and got a lift from a private vehicle (white Nissan Almera). During his arrest, a firearm with ammunition and two magazines, were recovered.

The serial number of the seized firearm was filed off and the police believe this gun was used to commit the murders.

The firearm has undergone ballistic testing to determine whether it was not used in the commission of crime elsewhere, including the recent double murder in eMbalenhle.

The suspect faces various charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition and double murder charges.

The victims were identified as Siyabonga Fortune Hlapo (25) and Ratile Motloung (24).
