Mpanza’s trial to resume in August in Evander
He is accused of six counts of rape, six of kidnapping, and one of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The Evander Regional Court on January 27postponed the trial of alleged serial rapist Themba Mpanza to August 17.
Mpanza is accused of six counts of rape, six of kidnapping, and one of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm regarding a series of incidents targeting young women, some of whom were reportedly hitchhiking or giving him directions.
According to the State prosecutor, he picked up three victims who were hitchhiking.
In another case, he allegedly lured a Leandra girl by pretending he needed directions, but diverted from the route, driving out of
Leandra past Eendracht via the R29, and raped her in a nearby field. Mpanza, arrested in 2022, was denied bail and has remained in custody since then.
After his bail application denial, Mpanza dismissed his attorney and chose to represent himself.
