Body found in Vaal River in Standerton: police investigation ongoing

It appears that the body had floated downstream to where it was found yesterday.

Standerton police are waiting on pathologists to determine the cause of death of a man found in the Vaal River last night.

According to Jandré Kasselman from Kasselman Security Services, a man fishing from the river bank spotted the body floating face down in the water in Meyerville at about 18:00.

He notified the emergency services.

Captain Braam Robberts, spokesperson for Standerton Police Station, said the body is that of an African man.

His age, distinguishing features and exact cause of death can not be determined yet, as it appears that the body had been in the water for some time.

It appears that the body had floated downstream to where it was found yesterday.
