A suspected cop killer was arrested in Evander yesterday, May 18.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested in a joint collaboration of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation based in Secunda and the Secunda K9 unit.
The arrest follows the murder of a policeman, Warrant Officer Hlatshwayo last year.
Hlatshwayo was attacked and shot while entering his home on February 18, 2022.
He was rushed to the Piet Retief Provincial Hospital and then transferred to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigating team followed up on information of the whereabouts of one of the suspects. This led them to Evander.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s court soon.
According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, Mpumalanga spokesman for the Hawks, more arrests are expected.
