Delmas Magistrate’s Court remands alleged fleet card abusers in custody

The employer of one of the accused suffered a los of almost R1m.

The Delmas Magistrate’s Court remanded Joseph Sibitane (51) and Rwisai Rufetu (48) in custody on January 23.

Their court appearances followed their arrests for the alleged unlawful use of Sibitane’s employer fleet card.

Lieutenant-Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, the Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson, said Sibitane and Rufetu allegedly used Sibitane’s employer fleet card for two months, from October to November 2022.

“Sibitane’s employer suffered an actual loss of R935 301.”

The Delmas police arrested Sibitane on January 21, and the Hawks’ Middelburg-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit nabbed Rufetu on January 22.

“Rufetu was arrested after his court appearance in Middelburg, where he faced other fraud charges,” said Nkosi.

Rufetu joined his co-accused, Sibitane, where he was remanded in custody for his second appearance on January 23.

Both briefly appeared and were remanded in custody, pending their next appearance in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court scheduled for January 30 for formal bail applications.

“The experienced team of investigators will do their best to prove a case that will lead to a conviction,” said the Mpumalanga provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber.
