Amersfoort Regional Court sends man to jail for killing his mother

Thami Sydney Mnyandu murdered his 75-year-old mother on July 25, 2024.

Thami Sydney Mnyandu (43) received a life sentence in the Amersfoort Regional Court on November 6, for the murder of his mother, Ntobizodwa Masina (75).

According to a report by Captain Mpho Nonyane, the police first responded to a complaint of an elderly woman who had been severely injured at her home in Sinqobile B on July 25, 2024.

Daggakraal officers approached the property and found Masina unconscious in the yard with severe injuries to her face, a wound on her chest and a cut on her forehead.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Masina died after a few days of being home from the hospital, succumbing to her wounds.

During the initial complaint, officers met Mnyandu, who confessed that he had assaulted his mother during an argument.

Mnyandu was arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

According to Nonyane, investigations revealed that the victim had previously taken out a protection order against Mnyandu.

After Masina died, the SAPS changed the charge from assault GBH to murder.
